Hands On! International Association of Children in Museums
Hands On! believes that museums should be places that stimulate curiosity and imagination in children. Places that inspire creativity, informal and lifelong learning, whether or not based on material and immaterial collection.
Hands On! has members from 45 different countries worldwide. Our members range from large national museums to ambitious individual professionals. Any museum or professional dedicated to making museums more accessible to and fun for children is welcome to join!
21st Centruy Children Project - Museums as education pioneers
We are an international community of museum professionals for whom children matter a lot.
Since 1996 we have been cooperating under the umbrella of Hands On! International Association of Children in Museums, internationally recognised as the only Europe-based organisation dedicated to children in museums on a transnational level, reaching to over 50 countries.
We are dedicated to fostering children for the challenges of the 21st century. Therefore, we have—together with our partners and members and thanks to the funding of the European Union’s Creative Europe program—developed a shared vision of museums, the quality criteria and certification, which can help children’s caregivers in discovering the places worth visiting.
Yes, we really believe, that museums could be the education pioneers for the 21st century children; so welcoming that it feels like “home” there.
